The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked about the application of sec.572.052 of the Government Code, which deals with representation by legislators before state agencies. The specific question is whether sec.572.052 prohibits a member of the legislature who is also a lawyer from representing a plaintiff in a case in which a defendant, an insurance company, is declared insolvent and the Texas Guaranty Association is charged with adjusting claims arising in Texas. AOR-285. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether a member of the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners may provide workshops for profit for licensed vocational nurses fulfilling their continuing education requirement for license renewal. AOR-286. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether a former employee of the Texas Real Estate Commission may be employed to teach real estate courses by an institution that is not regulated by the Real Estate Commission and whether the former employee may be employed as an instructor to prepare applicants for a real estate license for the licensing examination.
