Appointments

Appointments for January 29, 2003

Appointed as Judge of the 5th Judicial District in Bowie and Cass Counties for a term until the next General Election and until his successor shall be duly elected and qualified, Ralph Kolb Burgess of Texarkana. Mr. Burgess will replace Judge Jack Carter who resigned.

Designated as presiding officer of the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities for a term at the pleasure of the Governor, Thomas P. Justis. Mr. Justis will replace James Caldwell as presiding officer.

Designated as presiding officer of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy for a term at the pleasure of the Governor, Billy M. Atkinson, Jr. of Sugarland. Mr. Atkinson will be replacing Michael Conway who no longer serves on the board.

Appointed to the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board for a term to expire February 1, 2005, Chris LaPlante of Austin. Mr. LaPlante is being reappointed.

Appointed to the Texas Historical Records Advisory Board for a term to expire February 1, 2005, Martha Doty Freeman of Austin. Ms. Freeman is being reappointed.

Appointed to the Central Texas Regional Review Committee for a term to expire January 1, 2004, Donna Hartman, Mayor, City of Morgan's Point Resort of Belton, Cliff Price, Coryell County Commissioner of Gatesville, Dale Jaecks, Milam County Commissioner of Rockdale, JoAn Musick-Flowers, Belton City Council of Belton, Maxine Miffleton, San Saba City Council of San Saba, Randy White, Mills County Judge of Goldhwaite.

Appointed to the Central Texas Regional Review Committee for a term to expire January 1, 2005, Tim Brown, Chair, Bell County Commissioner of Belton, Jack Calvert, Mayor, City of Lampasas of Lampasas, Jim Boatwright, Hamilton County Commissioner of Hamilton, Jack Wall, Coryell County Commissioner of Gatesville, Daren Moore, Mayor, City of Gatesville of Gatesville, James E. Lafferty, Mayor, City of Cameron of Cameron.

Executive Order RP 23

Relating to honoring the crew members of the Space Shuttle Columbia

WHEREAS, on February 1, 2003, at 8:00 a.m (CST) Mission Control in Houston lost contact with our Space Shuttle Columbia;

WHEREAS, over the vast blue skies of Texas, we lost seven valiant men and women who had soared into space to expand the bounds of science, taking giant steps for all humanity;

WHEREAS, Americans across our great land, and our friends in the State of Israel and the country of India, are saddened by the loss of these pioneers;

WHEREAS, we will never forget their ultimate sacrifice, remembering always that they possessed that unique combination of vision, enterprise and quest for scientific discovery that will stand through the ages as an example for the generations to come;

WHEREAS, it is appropriate to join in a moment of silence, to pay our deepest respects and reaffirm in unity that theirs was a noble endeavor that will serve as a lasting legacy for all the ages;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rick Perry, Governor of the State of Texas, by virtue of the power and authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Texas, do hereby ask all Texans to join in observing, on February 4, 2003, a moment of silence at noon (CST).

This order is effective immediately and shall remain in effect and in full force until modified, amended, rescinded, or superseded by me or by a succeeding Governor.
