Locating a Document

There are several ways to locate information in the Texas Register Archive.  If you already have a Texas Register citation, it is easiest to browse for the correct issue.  If you are looking for rules on a particular subject, then searching on that keyword will pull up relevant Texas Register issues. If you are looking for rules that affect a particular section of the Texas Administrative Code, searching for the citation might help, but the Index to Sections Affected is more effective.

Viewing the Documents

The Texas Register files are available in three formats online, namely: Text, PDF, and HTML formats.

  1. The Text form of the Texas Register  includes files from June 14, 1991 to September 25, 1998.
  2. The PDF Files contains all issues starting from April 02, 1996 to present.
  3. The HTML Files includes all issues starting from September 10, 1996 to present.

The Texas Register files can be accessed by using most Web browsers.  Although the text form of the Texas Register files can be opened by most word processing and database software packages, for ease in searching, format and printing, we recommend that the Texas Register ‘Text’ Files are best utilized in a word processing software package. PDF files may be viewed by using Adobe Acrobat Reader. You may download the Adobe Acrobat Reader, free, at http://www.adobe.com/

Prior to September 13, 2002, tables, charts, and other graphics are available only in PDF format. From September 13, 2002 onwards, tables and graphics are included in the html version of the Texas Register. Insertion of graphic material in Text and pre 09/13/2002 HTML files is indicated with the code [graphic]. You may have one code or several of these codes indicating where the graphic material has been published in the printed version of the Texas Register.

If you need the graphics of those files which are not available in PDF format (i.e. from June 14, 1991 to March 29, 1996) they will be furnished upon request by calling (or emailing) the UNT Libraries' Government Documents Department at: (940)-565-2870. You can also contact the Texas Register at: (512) 463-5561. For efficient service, please include the following information:
