TEXAS ETHICS COMMISSION The Texas Ethics Commission is authorized by Government Code, sec.571.091, to issue advisory opinions in regard to the following statutes: the Government Code, Chapter 302; the Government Code, Chapter 305; the Government Code, Chapter 572; the Election Code, Title 15; the Penal Code, Chapter 36; and the Penal Code, Chapter 39. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked about the type of solicitation costs a corporation may pay under the Election Code, sec.253.100(b). The request letters asks about costs in connection with a golf tournament, and barbecue lunch, and a t-shirt sale. AOR-315. The treasurer of a specific-purpose political committee for supporting a judge has asked whether it is permissible to contribute its remaining funds to the judge for his current campaign so that the committee may dissolve. AOR-316. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether the Penal Code, sec.36.08, prohibits city employees from accepting a group discount at a day care facility that the city has designated as a preferred childcare provider.
