TEXAS ETHICS COMMISSION The Texas Ethics Commission is authorized by Government Code, sec.571.091, to issue advisory opinions in regard to the following statutes: the Government Code, Chapter 302; the Government Code, Chapter 305; the Government Code, Chapter 572; the Election Code, Title 15; the Penal Code, Chapter 36; and the Penal Code, Chapter 39. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether former commissioners and executive directors of the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission may represent persons in certain permitting matters filed with the TNRCC after the commissioner or executive director left the agency. AOR-310. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider the circumstances in which a judge may use political contributions to pay the costs of defending a lawsuit. AOR-311. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether section 572.054 prohibits a former member of the Texas Commission on Fire Protection from serving on certain advisory committees that recommend rule changes to the commission. AOR-312. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether Title 15 of the Texas Election Code governs contributions or expenditures made by a Texas corporation relating to an election held in another state. AOR-313. The Texas Ethics Commission has been asked to consider whether a retired senior judge who sits on cases by assignment may use surplus political contributions to pay for continuing legal education.
