Richards Governor of Texas Executive Order AWR-94-18 Establishing the Sesquicentennial Committee to Celebrate Texas' Annexation to the United States WHEREAS, on December 29, 1995, the State of Texas will celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of Texas' annexation to the United States; and, WHEREAS, the citizens of Texas want to observe and celebrate the transfer of authority from the Republic of Texas to the State of Texas; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ann W. Richards, Governor of the State of Texas, under the authority vested in me, do hereby create and establish the Sesquicentennial Committee, hereinafter referred to as the "Committee," to celebrate Texas' annexation to the United States on December 29, 1845. State Senator John T. Montford and State Representative Jerry K. Johnson shall serve as co-chairs. Ex- officio members of the Committee shall consist of one representative each from the Texas Historical Commission, the Texas State Library and Archives Commission, the Institute of Texan Cultures, the Center for American History, and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The purpose of the Committee shall be to coordinate and assist in the planning of statewide sesquicentennial celebrations. In order to achieve such purpose, the Committee may appoint advisory members and assign such duties and responsibilities as deemed appropriate and necessary, and the co-chairs may designate such sub-committees as they deem appropriate and necessary to assist in achieving the purpose of the Committee. Members of the Committee, including advisory members, shall serve without compensation or reimbursement of actual expenses. All state agencies are urged to cooperate with the Committee to assist it in achieving its designated purpose.
