19 TAC §74.53, §74.54
The State Board of Education (SBOE) withdraws the proposed
amendments to §74.53 and §74.54, concerning curriculum requirements,
published in the March 26, 2004, issue of the
Texas
Register
(29 TexReg 3023). The sections outline the recommended high
school program (RSHP) and distinguished achievement program (DAP) graduation
plans for Texas high school students. The proposed amendments would have added
an option to 19 TAC Chapter 74, Subchapter E, that would allow Geology, Meteorology,
and Oceanography (GMO) or Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science to
count toward the required science credit in the RHSP and the DAP. The proposed
amendments were to be implemented beginning September 2005. The SBOE received
comments in support of and in opposition to the proposed amendments. During
its meeting on May 7, 2004, the SBOE took action to withdraw this proposal
and to propose similar provisions in a new 19 TAC Chapter 74, Subchapter F,
Graduation Requirements, Beginning with School Year 2005-2006. This proposal
can be found in the Proposed Rules section of this issue.
Filed with the Office of
the Secretary of State on May 28, 2004.
