Executive Order GWB 00-4
RELATING TO EXEMPTING CERTAIN CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS
FROM THE STATE POSITION CLASSIFICATION PLAN
WHEREAS
, the Governor is authorized to exempt
positions from the State Position Classification Plan; and
WHEREAS
, a benefit to public safety would
be realized by authorizing the Texas Department of Criminal Justice to expand
its current career ladder by adding an additional correctional officer position
title to provide for the retention of experienced correctional officers.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, GOVERNOR OF THE
STATE OF TEXAS
, under authority vested in me by §654.012(8)(A),
Government Code, do hereby exempt the "Correctional Officer IV" position title
from the State Position Classification Plan for use by the Texas Department
of Criminal Justice at an annual salary not to exceed the greater of $28,380
or an amount equal to 6.1% more than the salary of the employee on the date
the employee is promoted into the Correctional Officer IV position;
FURTHER
, the Texas Department of Criminal
Justice shall not be limited as to the number correctional officers designated
as Correctional Officer IV; however, use of the Correctional Officer IV position
title shall be limited to employees with more than 36 months of experience
as a Texas Department of Criminal Justice correctional officer; and
FURTHER
, I hereby certify that the exemption
created by this Executive Order is for a bona fide new position, as defined
by the Position Classification Act.
This Executive Order shall become effective July 1, 2000, and shall remain
in full force and effect until August 31, 2001, unless otherwise modified,
amended or rescinded by me.
